Truth Is

We've all seen the "Truth is" Facebook statuses go scrolling by on our news feeds. What that usually means is that someone is really bored. SO bored that they are offering to tell you the truth about your relationship with them, but what does that really mean deep down inside? What if someone really knew the truth about us, beyond what we are WILLING to tell or have known?

Have you ever found out something about someone you never knew before? Or that you never wanted to know in the first place? Maybe you saw your next door neighbor on the news who had a secret meth lab in his basement. Or maybe you learned that the sweet couple down the street was actually keeping their kids in a dog cage down in their basement. Sometimes the truth can be a rather nasty pill to swallow.

If Jesus had a Facebook page and posted a "Truth Is" status, would you like it? Would you be willing to hear the truth about yourself from God Himself?

When Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well He told her things about herself that few people knew. When confronted with this truth the woman ran off amazed to tell her family and friends.

"28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did." - John 4:28

Is your life clean enough of mistakes and sin that you could confidently stand before God, fearless of the truths He would tell you? Mine's not. There are plenty of things in my past that I don't want anyone to know. Yet, God knows them already. And He still loves me.

As I watch the world scroll by . . . the narcissistic world in which we live . . . I have to wonder if there is hope for us. Truth is . . . there is no hope at all. With one amazing exception.

"3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls." - 1 Peter 1:3-9

Truth is . . . it doesn't get much better than that.
