Memorial

Today is Memorial Day - a day we, as nation, have set aside to remember those who have fallen in the defense of our country. It is an honorable thing to remember those who have sacrificed so much.

Often, examples of such service can be seen throughout the generations. My great, great grandfather served in the Civil War, my grandfather in World War I and my father in World War II. Fathers and Sons. Serving.

When soldiers are welcomed home from war, they are greeted warmly by their family members. A video example of families welcoming home their loved ones is at the end of this story. Please watch it. The "welcome home" hugs remind me of when the prodigal son came home in Luke 15.

"20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him." - Luke 15:20

Examine the looks on the faces of those who are being surprised in the video. Is Our Father's expression any different when we come to faith in His Son? I don't think so. We are welcomed with open arms. We are welcomed home.

I thank God for those who sacrificed their lives for those they loved. We all should. Not just this day, but every day.

God did the very same thing for you and for me, you know. He sacrificed His only Son for those HE loved. Give HIM thanks and praise today as well - this Memorial Day. Remember the Father and the Son, as well as the sons and the daughters, the sisters and the brothers.

Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day!

  1. Beautiful! Yes, thank the Father for giving His Son to set us free from the power of sin.
