I woke up with a song in my head this morning. The lyrics that kept on repeating were, "Something greater is on the way. Just hang on. Try to hang on."
When Jesus was talking with His disciples in Matthew 24 they specifically asked Him, "What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" His answer perfectly reflects our world today. Here is an excerpt.
"At that time (the time of His coming) many will fall away and will betray and hate one another, 11and many false prophets will arise and mislead many.
12Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. 13But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved." - Matthew 24:10-12
Our perseverance is being tested right now. Do we have what it takes to "endure to the end"?
It's hard to watch the news at night and to hear the stories about how far we have fallen as a nation and as a people. Murders, unrest, our politicians want to defund the police - the very people they hired to enforce the very laws THEY created. It's crazy out there!
So, how can we "endure to the end" . . . in such a world as this?
Jesus answered that question for His disciples as well.
"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." - Matthew 24:30-31
Now the only unanswered question is, "Are you one of the elect?"
"The elect" are the true believers in Jesus, The Messiah. They are "The Church." They are not the Roman Catholic church. the Greek Orthodox church, or the Lutheran Church. "The Church" of Jesus Christ is made up of true believers from ALL of our worldly churches.
And not all of the members of our earthly churches will be saved. Only those who have truly given their lives over the Christ. Those who worship in spirit and in truth, those who serve their King every day of their earthly lives, those who sacrifice "self", those who would die rather than deny faith in God.
Look, things these days are tough. There's no denying that. It's hard to get through a day without feeling depressed and in despair. But we must rejoice!! Why? Because . . . "Something greater is on the way. Just hang on. Try to hang on."
