I have a theory. I don't know if it's true or not but there is evidence in scripture that God has done this type of thing in the past. The question is, will He do it again?
The first example I would like you to consider is Noah. Exhibit A:
"Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth." - Genesis 6:9-10
This text says nothing about the righteousness of Noah's sons. Were they righteous? We don't know. Now consider this passage:
"Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark - you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you." - Genesis 6:17-18
Exhibit B: Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
"The two men (angels) said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here - sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here," - Genesis 19:12
Again, the text says nothing about the righteousness of Lot's wife and daughters, but the angels warned Lot to get them out of the city before God destroyed it.
Is this an Old Testament pattern that will one day be fulfilled by Jesus? In Noah's case, the ark was a symbol of Jesus, the Messiah. To be saved, one had to enter the ark. That brings us to the question of the day. When Jesus returns to rapture His church, will unrighteous wives and children also be taken?
All Christians have been made righteous by their repentance and belief in Jesus, whose shed blood on the cross MADE them righteous in God's eyes.
There are many Old Testament foreshadowings of future events. Jonah spent three days and night in the bellow of a large fish. Jesus spent three days and nights in the belly of the earth before rising on the third day.
Jesus has fulfilled the first four Jewish festival days by doing something huge. There are three more of these days to be "completed." What's next? The rapture of His Church.
Jesus and HIS children will be saved from the wrath to come, but the rest of mankind will be destroyed.
I don't know the answer to today's question, but I do know this:
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:13
God may take our unbelieving spouses and children with us when He comes. He might not. Is that something you want to take a chance with? Place your trust and hope in Jesus today!
