Yesterday my wife and I watched the Packers game. By halftime I was out in the yard cutting down trees and my wife was raking leaves. We had such high hopes for the Packers but they disappointed us.
Did you catch the presidential election last Tuesday. It was hard to miss. Half of the voting populace voted for one candidate, the other half voted for someone else. So basically half of the people are disappointed with the elections outcome.
We humans tend to place way too much hope and trust in our fellow human beings. We always seem to disappoint despite our best intentions not to. We disappoint. That's what we do.
I was disappointed with the service I got at the local Sears store and also at the local tire shop. We humans tend to expect a certain result and, if we don't get it, we don't like it.
Have you seen the riots on TV? People were disappointed with the election results. Naturally, when we are disappointed in others we tend to trash them on Facebook, destroy their property, beat them up or threaten to kill them.
I have even seen people go on Facebook and say that they are disappointed with the people who were disappointed by something else. Seems like everybody's disappointed about something or someone.
Have we tried placing our faith in God? We should try that some time. We'll live longer. WAY longer. Take the election for example. Did you place your faith in God about the results? That He would place into power exactly who He wanted? We should have, because it's true. That's what He does.
"13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For
rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do
wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do
what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good." - Romans 13:1-4
We should trust in God more. Maybe God placed Donald Trump into power because God wanted to do something through Him. Maybe He allowed Trump to win because God wanted to punish us. We shouldn't look at elections the way we do. God is in control.
Donald Trump is who God wanted in the White House at this particular time for some yet unknown reason. We should rejoice in that because we are getting exactly who we deserve. It is God's will!
Are we prepared for what God is going to do with this country? We should be. If He is our God then we should be placing our faith and trust in Him, not an earthly leader.
So, as we "get over" this past election cycle, let us remember that nothing happens without God allowing it and there is nothing that can happen without God getting us through it. We should be placing our trust in God and our faith in His Son Jesus. As long as we do that we will be just fine no matter WHO is in the White House.

Of Kings And Men
I almost couldn't believe my eyes! My wife and I have been voting at the same polling station for the past 33 years and we have never seen the line that long. Ever. Not even close. We live five miles out in the country where the population is sparse and we had to wait an hour in line to cast out ballot.
I stayed up late watching the returns and, quite honestly, I was expecting Hillary to win. But when I saw Wisconsin, a traditionally Democratic state, go to Trump, I knew something was happening. Something not of this world.
My friend and I have been praying for our state and national leaders for months now but this outcome was not expected. Not by the pollsters, the media . . . anybody. Yet somehow Trump was winning!
I am not a Trump fan. He is not my idea of an "ideal" candidate. Whatever THAT is. But I think I know why Trump won. Open your Bibles to Exodus, chapter 10.
"10 Now the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him, 2 and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son’s son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.” - Exodus 10:1-2
This nation has turned its back on God just like the Israelites did numerous times in the Old Testament. And God, just as we read in that verse, can harden and, by implication, soften hearts. I think that's what God did here, in our country.
I think God got tired of us killing babies. I think God got tired of the corruption and the scandals but I also think God answered our prayers.
"14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14
Earlier this year Franklin Graham traveled this country holding prayer rallies. He encouraged us to pray and to vote. I think we did that. On my way home from work last night, Janet Parshall's show was filled with prayer - two hours of prayer!! Has God heard us from heaven? Is God beginning to heal our land?
Let us continue to pray for our nation's leaders. Let us pray for Hillary, that she might examine herself and the things she has done. May she repent and seek God.
May we as a nation return to God and lift His name high above ALL names!
I invite you to listen to this song. May we be grateful that God hears us and kings and kingdoms bow down. Amen!

Let's Party!
My wife and I have been having a little contest to see who can hit the mute button on the remote the fastest when a political commercial comes on. My wife has proven herself to be pretty quick. While I am slower on the draw, I do tend to use more force. It's been fun . . . unlike all of the political commercials.
Both candidates profess to be Christians. I don't believe it. Practicing Christians tend to think of themselves last. They tend to serve others instead of themselves. And they don't lie!
Here's a few words of advice for our politicians from the Word of God. Imagine what our political contests would be like if they only followed God's precepts.
"29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers." - Ephesians 4:29
"love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you," - Matthew 5:44
"10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up." - James 4:10
I think we need a new political party in this country. Instead of the Tea Party we'll call it the Salt and Light Party. Instead of a donkey or an elephant as our symbol we will have a sheep. Or better yet, a lamb!
"When asked about the two current presidential candidates, the Salt and Light party chairman was quoted as saying, 'Baa.'" It would be so much fun!
Our platform will be that ALL lives matter (2 Peter 3:9). We will feed the hungry (Matthew 25:35), clothe the naked (Matthew 25:36), take care of the widow and the orphan (James 1:27). If you don't work, you don't eat (2Thessalonians 3:10), except for those who are unable. There will be shelter for everyone (Isaiah 58:7). We will give to one another as there is a need (Acts 2:45).
We will worship and pray to our Creator for it is only fitting that we give Him our thanks and praise. No more wars, no more lying and the only thing that will come out of our mouths is encouragement for others and praise for our King. Would you join a party like that? Can I get an amen?

Oh Deer
This week my wife and I had a rather unique experience. A deer ran into our living room window. Nothing was broken, except the deer's pride perhaps. "Oops. I ran into a house."
The only thing I could think of for why the deer did such a thing was that the woods surrounding our house was somehow reflected in the window and the deer thought it was running into the woods. Whatever the reason, the deer was clearly confused and lost.
That got me thinking. We humans can be a lot like that confused deer was the other night. Blindly charging ahead, not checking to see if what we are about to do will harm us or hurt us.
Jesus told us we are to "count the cost" before we do something.
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?" - Luke 14:28-34
Have we as Christians estimated the cost of being a Christian BEFORE we became one? It will cost us plenty, just as Jesus said. It has cost me friends and relationships, even family members. No one told me about the "fine print" before I became a believer.
That's not true. Jesus told us the cost 2,000 years ago. I just didn't hear Him.
I re-wrote this story because the previous version did not glorify God. I did not glorify Him and it cost me. I feel like I let Him down and didn't give Him my best nor the honor that is due Him.
Before we do anything in this life we must first ask ourselves, "Is what I am about to do or say honoring to God? If it is not, why am I about to do it?"
Is running into this house the God-honoring thing to do? No? Then we need to repent, turn around, and try a different direction, a different story.
Honoring God with the living of our lives should be a very high priority for us. It should be our duty. We are representing God here on earth. To quote a Todd Agnew song, "If Ephesians says to imitate Christ, who do we look so much like "the world?"
May we always be thinking BEFORE we act. May we always "count the cost" before we commit to any action or words. By doing that we will be honoring God with our lives. And that's what Christians are known for. Jesus told us . . .
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:13-16
May we look before we leap. May we stop and think before we "jump into things" or open our mouths . . . or in my case, write a story. May we ALWAYS honor God in what we say and do . . . like a city on a hill. So that others might see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.

Extremely Careless
One hot July morning a woman was pulled over by the police for speeding. As the officer approached the car the woman began hurriedly hiding the open beer cans that were on her passenger seat. She was about to be caught doing something that had been clearly against the law and she was expecting the worst.
The cop motioned for her to roll down the window, which she did.
"Do you know how fast you were going ma'am?" the officer asked.
"No officer," she replied.
"You were doing 74 miles an hour in a 35 zone," the police office informed her.
"Oh."
"And is that beer I smell on your breath?" the officer continued.
"Umm . . ."
"You were doing over twice the legal speed limit and, judging by the number of beer cans I saw you toss into the back seat, I'd be willing to bet you are intoxicated as well. What do you have to say for yourself?
"Well, Mr. Officer sir, it wasn't my intent to actually get drunk and I never intended to go that fast. And I didn't know the speed limit applied to me."
What do you supposed were the next words out of the officer's mouth?
"Out of the car" would be a good guess. "Ignorance is no excuse ma'am" might be another. No one would expect the police officer to say, "Oh, well then, have a nice day" as he returned to his squad car.
Yet a very similar scenario to that happened on Tuesday in our country as this nation's FBI director James Comey said there would be no recommendation that criminal charges be brought against Hillary Clinton for lying to the FBI, illegally transferring top secret government documents in an insecure manner.
Despite her lying to congress and the FBI she is being given a pass. I smell beer in the air.
America is a nation of laws. Breaking those laws comes with consequences. That's why there are people in prison. They have broken the laws. Remember Martha Stewart? She lied to the FBI. She went to prison.
Who appoints the FBI director? The president does. Who appoints the Attorney General? The president does. Who does our president want to win the November election. He wants Hillary to win, of course. There is no conspiracy theory here. This sh . . . stuff is real!
Why are so many people upset about this breach of justice? Because it is a breach of justice! We are a just nation, or at least we were. We demand justice!!
Stop a moment and think about that statement - we demand justice. Do we? Really?
God demands justice when WE commit a sin. We KNOW that we will be punished for those sins. Why? Because God is just. What would happen if God was not just? Would there be any sense of right and wrong?
Sadly, we can no longer say that our nation is a just nation. It is now clear that, if you have power and influence, you can rise above the law. The is IN-justice.
God forgives us our sins if we are humble, repent and seek His forgiveness. But we must repent. Why would God forgive us if we didn't think we did anything wrong?
Look, we are ALL guilty of breaking God's laws. God is just. Someone must pay the price for OUR transgressions . . . even Hillary's. That someone was Jesus. He paid the penalty dealt out by a just God.
We need to be praying for Hillary. We need to be praying for this nation of ours. And we need to be asking ourselves, "Why is God allowing all this to happen?" Why do you think? He is just and we are not. He has turned us over to the lusts of our hearts.
"10 I am the Lord your God,
Who brought you out of the land of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 “But My people would not heed My voice,
And Israel would have none of Me.
12 So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart,
To walk in their own counsels.
13 “Oh, that My people would listen to Me,
That Israel would walk in My ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies,
And turn My hand against their adversaries.
15 The haters of the Lord would pretend submission to Him,
But their fate would endure forever.
16 He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat;
And with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you.” - Psalm 81:10-16
We MUST repent and turn to God for help. That is the only thing that can save us. I urge you to pray. A just God is our only hope.

A Grain Of Salt
We all have our own idea of what is right and what is wrong. Some people want to ban guns, others don't. Some people support gay marriage, others don't. There are pro-life people and there are those who favor abortion. Some people like Chevy's Others like Fords.
Who is right? IS there a right and a wrong side to things? If there is, who determines what it is? And what if THEY are wrong? I'm getting weary just thinking about all this. There has GOT to be some source, some means of finding out what truth is and what is a lie.
Many people find their "truth" on the Internet or on television. That's both funny and sad at the same time. ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN all lean to the left, politically. Fox News claims to be "fair and balanced" but they aren't. They lean to the right. Doesn't anyone speak the truth anymore?
Everybody has their own opinion. News editors and producers have their own opinions of what WE should see on the news or read on their web sites or in their newspapers. We need to take everything we hear and read with "a grain of salt." What does that mean?
"(With) a grain of salt," (or "a pinch of salt") is an idiom of the English language, which means to view something with skepticism, or to not take it literally.
Right now, in this country, we have two people running for president. Both have opposing views on many things. Both will tell you that they are speaking the truth and that the other candidate is lying. So, who is right? They're not BOTH lying are they? Who is right and who is wrong? There can be only one truth. And it is our job to find out what that truth is.
We can actually find out what truth is by opening up our Bibles. In it we will find that JESUS is "the truth" (John 14:6). We also can find that God "does not lie" (Titus 1:2). We can learn that God's "way is perfect" (Psalm 18:30).
And it doesn't take too much research to find out what God thinks about lying, murder, abortion, homosexuality, adultery, over eating, stealing, self pride, etc.
When we hear someone tell us something and say that it is the truth, we should not believe them, unless we know them to be a truthful person. Even then, we should examine what they tell us. There is a very fine line between telling someone something and gossip.
The truth can be a very illusive thing. I have found that only God knows it and speaks it. Everyone else simply has an opinion. Someone once said, "All truth is relative." Is that statement true? Or is it relative, only true to the person saying it?
Jesus Christ told us that He is the truth. He, being God, cannot lie. Therefore, what He says is truth. That truth may not answer today's political "truths" but it can help us be discerning in our investigation of what IS truth. And, we are told, the truth will set us free.
"42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” - John 8:42-47
I encourage you to watch this short video about "relative truth." Ravi nails it!
The Truth Cannot Be All Relative - Dr. Ravi Zacharias
Who is right? IS there a right and a wrong side to things? If there is, who determines what it is? And what if THEY are wrong? I'm getting weary just thinking about all this. There has GOT to be some source, some means of finding out what truth is and what is a lie.

The Land Of The Lost
I remember coming home from college and seeing my brother watching a show called Land of The Lost. It was about a dad and his two kids who somehow got lost on a rafting trip and ended up in an unknown world where it was often hard to tell the friendly people from the evil ones. Hmm. Sound like the world we live in today, doesn't it?
Think about that old television shows title - Land of The Lost. Doesn't that perfectly describe us? Watch the news at night, especially the political coverage and tell me we are not lost. It looks like we are going to have a choice for president between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Talk about lost!!
This weekend for me was, in a nutshell, the two extremes this world has to offer. Saturday I attended the wedding of a young couple that was simply wonderful. We prayed three times during the brief service and God was honored, not only during the wedding ceremony but in the lives of the two young people. My friend is ROTC, preparing to serve others and her country.
Sunday, however, I am heading back to Wisconsin to minister to a young friend in trouble. This friend took a different turn in life and now finds herself in a battle between good and evil. No sign yet as to who is winning that battle. It could go either way.
And look at the presidential race, especially the Republican side. We The People are totally lost! Or are we? There is definitely a message that is being sent to Washington's politicians. Get out!! You're lost!!
As we examine our lives are WE lost? Have WE gone astray? How do we know we haven't been sucked into the world we live in and our views about God have become changed?
We must place our faith in Jesus and receive in us His promised Holy Spirit. We must read the Bible and apply its truths to our lives. We must remove from us any wrong thinking or sinful action, and that is the battle we face.
This world constantly pulls at us wanting us to be assimilated into itself. Yet God calls us to be holy - "set apart." Who will we follow? Are we following someone that is leading us astray? And how will we know?
God gave us His Holy Word - The Bible. Read it lately?
I am reminded of the lyrics in that old hymn Amazing Grace.
"I once was lost, but now am found. Was blind but now I see."
God's grace truly is amazing. But the only way we can experience it is to receive it. We must allow Him to "find us" in our lost nature. Only then can we leave the Land of The Lost behind. Only then can he truly see.
"3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." - Luke 15:3-7

Look! Free Stuf!!
I went to the grocery store the other day to get some milk. The ad in
the newspaper told me I could get a free gallon! I'm all over that!
Everyone loves free stuff, right? So I happily carried my gallon of free milk up to the check out counter where the checker lady told me I needed to pay $2.39.
"What? The ad in the paper said this milk was free." I begged.
"Well, sir, if you look down here at the bottom of the ad, in the small print, (she hands me a magnifying glass) it clearly states that the milk is indeed free . . . with the purchase of five additional gallons of milk."
Very few things are free in this world and, as I found out on THAT fictitious day, milk was not one of them.
Maybe it's my age and the wisdom that comes from six decades of world observation, but I cannot for the life of me understand the fascination with admitted socialist Bernie Sanders. And it's mainly the young! Why? That's actually easy to figure out. They like "free" stuff and they are idealistic. How do I know that? I felt the same way way when I was that age. But then something happened. I woke up when reality slapped me in the face.
Nothing
is free in this world. So why do we always keep falling into the same
old trap? Because we all like free stuff. Like a mouse and his cheese,
our selfish desires lead to death (Romans 6:23).Have you seen this meme on Facebook? Who's going to pay for all of the free stuff Bernie is promising? Go look in the mirror.
A few stories ago on this blog I wrote about the Acts 2 church and how they "had all things in common." A friend of mine pointed out that the early church was kind of an early day "commune" and wondered why communism never succeeded. I think it's because of one main reason.
The Acts 2 church gave to one another willingly with what they had. In present day communism and socialism, wealth is redistributed against the will of the majority of the people. That is why it fails. Why should we work hard to get ahead if our money is only going to be taken away from us and given to somebody else? Let's go to God's word.
"6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. 9 It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living." - 2 Thessalonians 3:6-12
Amen!
The only "free stuff" I know off that is actually totally free is God's gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Apart from that, we are given nothing for free. But even THAT free gift came with a cost when Jesus died on the cross. Let us all walk in Paul's advice to us. Let us work for what we receive. And let us rejoice in what we have been given.

A Religion of Convenience
"Far to many women are still denied critical access to reproductive health in child birth. All the laws we passed don't count for much if they're not enforced. Rights have to exist in practice, not just on paper. Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will and deep-seated cultural codes and religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed. (Cheers)"
That was an excerpt from a political speech. The speaker was addressing a large group of women. One does not have to think too hard to figure out who said it. Before we get into all that though, I would like you to take a look at a few key phrases in the above quote.
"Reproductive health" is the latest term the left is using to describe abortion. It sounds so nice. Everyone should be in favor of reproductive health for women, right? Let's re-read that first sentence, only using "abortion" instead of "reproductive health."
"Far to many women are still denied critical access to abortion in child birth."
Sounds a little different. But what IS abortion anyway? It is the termination, killing, of babies, still in the womb. Let's read it again, substituting THAT definition.
"Far to many women are still denied critical access to the killing of their babies in child birth."
Is it just me? Or does that sound morally wrong?
The speaker of the opening quote was Hillary Clinton. She was talking about Obamacare and the Hobby Lobby case where Hobby Lobby sued the U.S. government because providing abortifatient drugs was against the company's religious beliefs. The case went to the Supreme Court where Hobby Lobby won. Praise God!
This speech was given AFTER the Supreme Court ruled. Hillary wants the law she and Obama created to be enforced despite the courts ruling. Interesting. But that's not the scariest sentence in her speech. Read the last sentence.
"deep-seated cultural codes and religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed."
Hillary Clinton thinks our religious beliefs against abortion must be changed. How do you suppose she will do that? How will she change our religious beliefs? And why?!?
I don't want to be an alarmist, shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater, but . . . DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS WOMAN, PLEASE!!!!
Hillary Clinton's Keynote Address - Women In The World Summit
(The comments in this blog are at the 8:27 mark in her speech)
There was a time in the world's history when a government felt that a religion's opinions needed to be changed . . . and millions of lives were lost in the process.

Most Bible-believing Christians will tell you that we are living in the last days. Scripture tells us that these times will increase in their lawlessness and ultimately we Christians will be cut out of the herd and persecuted because of our beliefs. Eventually we will be killed because of our faith. Did I say "eventually?" People are already losing their heads overseas because of their faith in Jesus. People are dying HERE for the same reason.
Pastors are being told not to speak out against homosexuality in their sermons or they will be charged with a hate crime. My friends, this is all prophesied in the Bible. It should not surprise us.
Thuth be told, it would not surprise me if Hillary Clinton won the presidency in 2016. The same country that elected its first black president could very well elect its first woman president. We like to be trend setters. That seems to be more important to us as a nation than religious liberty of the killing of babies for convenience sake. It's all about us and not about God. We seem to prefer convenience and selfishness over morality.
If Hillary gets elected and she then decides to “get religious people to change their minds,” what shall we "religious people" do? Will we obey the law she will want enforced despite the Supreme Courts ruling, even thoughwe would be disobeying the God we profess faith our faith and hope in? All this in favor of complying with HER beliefs?
“Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” - Matthew 22:21
I have a question for you. Who do you belong to? WHOSE are you? Are you an American? Or are you a Christian? You probably would like to answer, “I am both.” Well, I am telling you today that, one day, we WILL have to make a choice in that regard. We will have to decide whom we are going to serve. Will we “pledge allegiance to the republic” or will we obey our God . . . "one nation, under His authority?" I know how I will chose. Do you?
“15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve," - Joshua 24:15
We are living in the last days. Life will be getting tougher for all of us but especially for those of us who believe in Jesus. We must take heart because Jesus has overcome the world and so shall we, through are faith in Christ.
We make decisions every day. Do we base them in faith? Or do we practice "a religion of convenience?" Do we obey our governments laws when they specifically conflict with God's?
It is time, my friends, to make a decision . . . and choose today whom we will serve.
