Some of my favorite songs are actually prayers, sung to our amazing God in heaven. This particular song I had heard before. I thought this might be a good song to act as a backdrop as we examine our stance in the world today. So much division. So much hatred. Yet, we who believe have been called to be holy, set apart from this world we live in.
How do we do that? I believe it is in the love we have for one another. It is a difficult thing to love someone who is yelling at us, pointing a gun at us or poised with a knife at our throat. But that is exactly what we are called to do. O God, forgive us.
43“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor i and hate your enemy.’ 44But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." - Matthew 5:43-48
