Trust

God can bless us in very unexpected ways sometimes. Like this past Sunday in church for example.

A young mom and her daughter approached me before the service and asked, "Can my daughter sit with you during church? I volunteered for nursery duty and my husband had to stay at home to fix our well."

The mom then told me that earlier, when she was wondering what to do with her daughter, her daughter spoke up and said, "Why can't I just sit with Bob? He's one of Daddy's friends."

How could I say no now? So, there we sat, an old man and his 6-year old friend.

During the pastor's message she was very well behaved, coloring in a little book she had brought with her. That is, until she began tearing pages out of it.

After the service was done we both went to the nursery. There was her mom helping other moms with their kids.

Then my little friend said, "Here. This is for you," and she handed me one of those torn out pages. It was a hand-drawn picture of a little girl (I assumed it was her) and a chicken.

"Oh, thank you!"

She then proceeded to give pictures to others as they came out of the nursery. Aww. How cute!

Then she said to me, "There's something on the back."

(See picture above)

What a blessing! Think about it. Here was a mom who felt confident enough in me that she would entrust her older daughter, six, into my care. Wow. And here was a daughter who spent her time in church that day thinking about, and creating gifts for, others. These ladies reminding me of another woman I once read about.

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. ²⁶She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. ²⁷She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. ²⁸Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ²⁹“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” ³⁰Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. ³¹Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." - Proverbs 31:25-31
